Background

Originally from Houston, Texas, I’m currently based in Las Vegas, Nevada where I work as a substitute teacher and am currently in the process of obtaining a teaching license. I have a double major from the University of Texas in Austin in English and Economics. Since graduating I’ve worked as a driver, union organizer and tutor.

Teaching Philosophy

Working at the University of Texas’ Undergraduate Writing Center and NetTutor, I was trained in a Non-Evaluative, Non-Directive method of teaching, where instead of “correcting” students and editing their papers, I play an active role in their own educational process. This means asking students why they make certain decisions, and helping guide them through the critical evaluation of their own academic work. Students come out of this process as better writers, better thinkers, and better students.

In my time as a tutor and teacher, I’ve helped students write

  • Humanities papers

  • Economics assignments

  • Cover letters

  • Resumes

  • Application essays for academic programs

Interests and Hobbies

I’m always reading something, and my favorite book of all time is probably Middlemarch. I’m interested in a wide array of subjects, particularly film and fine art, and even have a YouTube channel where I talk about movies, and edit my own videos. So if you need help with writing about art or film theory, I got you! If you need help figuring out how to put together a multimedia project, and it involves video editing, I got you!
